South East Melbourne Magic Overview

The South East Melbourne (SEM) Magic basketball club was formed in 2022 as a registered Not-For-Profit (NFP) community based basketball organisation.

The club has been created in response to many years of experience from the collective of players, parents, coaches and administrators seeking a shared vision of a club with strong ties to its community and a consistent approach to club values.

Registration is open twice per year for the Summer season (Term 4 & 1), and Winter season (Term 2 & 3), however late entries and training / development opportunities remain open year around for interested members.

Visit our Registration Page for information and contact details regarding the current season.

Teams & Squads

Players are selected to teams based on a range of factors including age, experience, ability – with consideration to previous teams, schools, and friendship groups. Players will shift between teams as they progress through the club and develop, to ensure they are allocated to the most appropriate training and competition environment.

Training is managed in a squad format, encompassing several teams & players from within the club, working together utilizing full court for drills, skills and scrimmage-based training.

Coaching & Development

All appointed coaches meet a minimum standard of experience and background. Each age group is lead by a Squad Coach who oversees the training and development of all players and teams. Parents are welcome to get involved, provided they have sufficient experience and share the clubs training and development principles.

SEM Magic has a shared system of principles that guide all players and coaches, at all levels, across all age groups. Our training structure these principles, ensuring no matter which team or coach your child is directly involved with, there is a consistency in the teachings, principles, and expectations for everyone involved at SEM Magic.

Fees & Policies

Players pay an upfront fee at the start of each season – this all-inclusive fee covers all aspects of your child’s participation for the upcoming season, including registration, match fees, court hire, coaching and social club. Uniforms are purchased separately. Payment plans are available for families upon request.

Underpinning everything SEM Magic does, is an active and robust Committee of Management, dedicated team of Coaches, and clearly defined set of policies that governs what we do. All prospective members are encouraged to learn more about the team and policies here:
